Introduction
Our aim at Somerset College is to create an atmosphere where happiness, trust and understanding are just as much a way of life as are endeavour, competition and achievement. We believe that such an environment produces a stable academic climate that allows each student to develop his or her special talents by learning to respect excellence and striving to achieve it. The philosophy of the school ensures that high standards of behaviour come about as a result of high levels of self-esteem and self-discipline. Somerset works to help young people to grow, to develop their talents and to liberate their imagination.
History/Special Features
Somerset College commenced in January 1983 with 158 students. This enrolment grew to 248 by the beginning of Term 4. It is an inter-denominational Christian school that now has a student population of 1170 students and is operating at capacity. The first Year 12 students graduated in 1987. Major contributing factors to the success of the school have been a very well qualified, talented and deeply committed staff and the presence of very strong support from parents and the community. The most up-to-date equipment and the fine facilities enhance an educational environment in which academic, cultural and sporting opportunities are maximised.
