Registered Training Organisations

Gold Coast Floristry and Retail Management is the only Registered Training Organisation on the Gold Coast to offer nationally recognised training in Floristry. After over a year of preparation we opened in July 2009 with pre vocational and introductory classes. In September, 2009 after rigorous inspection by the State Government we received registration as a Registered Training Organisation. We then commenced in October 2009 with our first students beginning their studies to achieve Certificates II and III in Floristry. 2010 was a year of consolidation us and our students – we as trainers gained new experience and have finetuned our training package to suit the needs of our students. Eleven students completed their Certificate II & III in Floristry with us in 2010 and are now qualified florists. Of this group most have jobs in the industry while others are looking at purchasing their own florist shops. In 2010 we also commenced our first school based trainee and now have available funding for these students as well as full time adult trainees. 2011 has seen us continue to deliver Certificate II & III as well as a Certificate IV in Floristry course to develop further floristry skills in design and construction of floral products as well as specialising in small business units to assist our graduates in becoming managers or business owners on they have completed the course. During this year we have trained or are training over twenty students. 2011 also saw the introduction by training.gov.au of the new Floristry training package – SLF10. This package developed by Service Skills Australia in conjunction with industry has updated the training delivered to keep pace with changes in the industry. The updated package keeps pace with current industry trends by:  Offering clearer progression between qualifications  Including skills for sustainability  Placing more emphasis on design skills  Providing new higher level qualifications  Strengthening assessment requirements The new Qualifications offered are: Certificate II in Floristry This qualification is suited to those working as assistants in a retail shop or studio, or as a production line assistant. Assistants within the floristry industry have a limited range of basic floristry technical skills and perform routine tasks using basic floristry operational knowledge. Assistants may develop retail an customer service skills. We will be offering this Certificate only on demand and are concentrating on delivering Certificates III and IV in Floristry. Certificate III in Floristry This qualification is the industry recognised ‘trade’ qualification to operate as a florist. Florists have a well developed customer service skills and apply techniques to design and construct a range of floristry products to meet the needs of customers. They provide technical advice and support team members. This is being offered as a 28 week course replacing our previous combined Certificate II & III course. Certificate IV in Floristry This qualification is suited to experienced florists who operate as senior florists within a business, and may have supervisory or management responsibilities. These people have high level customer services skills and apply techniques to design and construct complex products to meet the needs of customers, including coordinating corporate requirements and for special occasions. This course is a 20 week course
